Pre-ordered copies of the game included an “Art Folio” with sixteen cards with artwork from the competition and descriptions on the back. The game’s action has the arcade-intense feel of Team Ninja’s more recent Ninja Gaiden titles, with all of the new moves geared around simplicity and speed–sometimes operating automatically if the right button is held. Samus Aran’s overall agility matches that of her Super Smash Bros incarnation for the first time, and her combat repertoire now includes finishing moves, dodges, and grapple strikes. According to the gameplay scenario, Samus has many of her suit’s powers (such as missiles and bombs) but does not use them until Adam grants her permission. Samus reunites with her old military leader, Adam Malkovich, and joins his squad of Federation soldiers in investigating the damaged station. The call comes from a troubled space station (similar to Metroid Fusion). After a brief introduction to recovery and a cinematic recreation of Super Metroid’s last moments, the game opens with Samus intercepting and investigating a distress call.
